Tonight I went to the meeting of The Rhode Island Holistic Healers Association, of which I am a member. The speaker, Yvonne Piette, emphasized personal responsibility and taking care of ourselves
first.
She also noted the importance of moving from the thinking realm to that of feeling. Thinking limits us to those things that we know. Feeling allows us to let in the guidance of intuition which can present limitless possibilities. For her, responsibility is owning what comes at you knowing that it serves a purpose for growth and "to act, not react."
Some of what she said tonight reinforced for me the themes I have discussed in this blog.
Not putting ourselves first puts us at risk for enabling other people. When we do that, we are interfering with the Soul growth of both ourselves and the person we think we are helping. It is a tough lesson and a fine line, but one that is crucial to progressing on our path. I am much better at choosing what, when to do for others and I feel better. This removes the feeling of being put upon and the risk for resentment. We need to be of service to ourselves first before we can be of service to others. This helps us to stay centered, builds self-esteem and maintains a sense of empowerment, another aspect of choosing to heal.
