There is no time and space in energy. This enables Reiki practitioners to send Reiki to a person or situation at a distance. One needs to be attuned to the Second Degree of Reiki in order to do this.
I have been learning how effective remote Reiki can be. There are those who have said that Reiki should not be sent without the person's permission. There are those who say to send it regardless as the energy will go to the earth, the universe, if the person rejects it. I agree with the latter. However, my personal experience has been very specific. I may know of a situation or a person that I think may need Reiki...my ego at work. I may be proven "right" in the long run, but Divine timing is ever at play (karma, one's contract for this incarnation). If the timing is right, Reiki will flow. If it is not, I will not feel the energy flow and will not be able to channel it.
So, the question may arise, that, if the timing is not right now and becomes "right" at a later time, who then needs Reiki? Why even bother doing it?
When an individual's Higher Self/Soul/Spirit makes the decision to heal, Reiki is a mechanism for healing. Free will enters here. Some people choose to stay on a less optimal path, others choose to evolve, grow, heal the Higher Self for the highest good of themselves, others, and the universe.
With the choice made, I can then honor my commitment to be a channel for healing and send Reiki to that person and his or her Higher Self to heal current and past blocks in the energy fields within and around the body. This healing can lead to awesome outcomes, as I am seeing.
I frequently use the word "awesome" in regard to Reiki. I will never, ever forget the feeling at my first attunement when Myra placed my hands on my chest and I felt the energy flow for the first time. I was awe struck - and continue to be every time I witness for myself what Reiki can do. I feel very blessed.

Unexpected Results of Reiki
When talking about Reiki, people often respond with a blank look upon hearing that Reiki heals on an emotional and spiritual level as well as physical. People are often turning to Reiki for physical relief, not grasping that healing can take place on multiple levels. Often healing must occur at the spiritual and emotional level before the physical manifestation can happen.
Without going into details because of confidentiality, my husband and I, as well as Reiki friends who volunteered to help, gave Reiki to a young lady who was experiencing seizures that were classified as non-epileptic. Her circumstances were dire at times and I attuned her mother, and faithful dog who never left her side, to Reiki to provide a circle of healing.
Over time...what seemed like an eternity to them...changes began to happen. In effect, healing that they could not see took place that created the environment, the energy, to bring to them those who could help and beautiful changes are now evident.
I have also witnessed this type of healing by sending healing over a distance to a person's Higher Self.
This is all phenomena that many people cannot wrap their heads around, but if they dare to take that leap of faith, beautiful transformations can happen, way beyond what was originally sought. This supports the notion that God/Spirit/the Universe may have plans for us way beyond what our ego-driven personalities can even begin to think of.

What Is Reiki?
Reiki is composed of two Japanese words - Rei and Ki. Rei can be defined as the subtle higher intelligence that guides creation and functioning of the universe. It is infinite and all knowing.
Ki is the energy that imbues everything, both animate and inanimate, vibrating at different frequencies. Ki is also the Chi of China and the Prana of India.
Thus, Reiki is defined as life force energy that is guided by a higher intelligence. This functional description expresses the experience of Reiki practitioners in that Reiki energy seems to have an intelligence of its own, flowing to where it is needed in the client to create the necessary healing conditions. It cannot be guided by the mind and cannot be manipulated by the practitioner. It always creates a healing effect.
Health, from an energetic perspective, is defined as the uninterrupted flow of Ki through and around the body. If the flow of Ki is disrupted, the physical organs and tissue will be adversely affected. Reiki balances the flow of energy. This noninvasive, completely benign technique is becoming increasingly popular. As Western Medicine continues to open to alternative methods of healing, Reiki will play an important role as an accepted and valued healing practice.
Upon initiation into Reiki through an attunement process, the Reiki practitioner becomes a channel for the energy (Ki) to flow to you to balance your body's energy system.
During a treatment, you will lie on a massage table, fully clothed. To facilitate relaxation, there may be lit candles and soft music playing in the background.
The laying on of hands is gentle and you may feel some warmth. If you prefer not to be touched, your request will be respected. This in no way diminishes the effectiveness of a treatment.
Reiki:
Reduces stress and promotes relaxation, allowing your
body to heal.
Is a way to enhance recovery from illness, injury, surgery
and emotional or physical trauma.
Is gentle, painless and noninvasive.
Is now in hospitals and hospices throughout the world.
Is being studied by the National Institute of Health and
The Center for Reiki Research.
